ISO 14060

What are the ISO 14064 Standards ?

The ISO 14000 series addresses various aspects of environmental management. Their recent addition, ISO 14064:2006, is an internationally recognized standard for the quantification and accounting aimed towards reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. It utilizes data collected through an emissions inventory to enable organisations to participate in carbon market through the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Emissions Trading or Joint Implementation projects.

The standard comprises three parts: ISO 14064-1:2006, ISO 14064-2:2006 and ISO 14064-3:2006. Part one specifies the requirements and guidance at an organisation level for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals. Part two specifies the requirements and guidance at a project level for quantification, monitoring and reporting of activities intended to cause greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions or removal enhancements. Part 3 specifies requirements and guidance for the validation and/or verification of greenhouse gas (GHG) assertions.

Essentially, the three parts individually detail specifications and guidance for GHG Inventories or GHG projects or their respective validation and/or verification.

Sustainable Manufacturing Label

The Sustainable Manufacturing Label was launched to encourage manufacturers to adopt green practices and innovation for long-term sustainability.

The new standards framework, comprising a 3-level approach, will enable manufacturers to:

  1. 1. Conduct self-assessments on the current maturity level of their sustainable manufacturing practices
  2. 2. Audit their facilities – companies which attain the minimum standard levels will be awarded with a certificate and Label on their achievements
  3. 3. Participate in the Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards (SME category)

SS ISO 50001:2011

What is the SS ISO 50001:2011 Standard ?

  • icoThe SS ISO 50001:2011 gives organizations the requirements for energy management systems (EnMS). It enables organizations to improve energy performance, including energy efficient use and consumption through the integration of energy efficiency into management practices. Furthermore, it can enable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and other related environmental impacts and energy cost.
  • icoThe Standard was internationally launched on 17 June 2011 at the Geneva International Conference Centre (CICG). In addition, on a national level, it has been adopted as a Singapore Standard.
  • icoSimilar to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 14064 standards, SS ISO 50001:2011 follows the PDCA model. In the planning phase, energy reviews are conducted to establish the baseline, energy performance indicators (EnPIs), objectives, targets and action plans necessary to deliver results in accordance with opportunities to improve energy performance and the organization’s energy policy. Energy management action plans are then implemented, monitored and measured to determine energy performance, followed by actions for the continual improvement of the EnMS.
  • icoApplicable across all industries, implementation of this standard can result in making better use of existing energy-consuming assets of the organization, evaluating and prioritizing the implementation of new energy-efficient technologies and promotion of energy efficiency throughout the supply chain.
