Course Overview

This course aims to to enable learners to Supervise Workplace Safety & Health in Marine Industry based on a set of competency elements, which includes:

  • ico Comply with workplace safety and health legislations, guidelines and code of practice and provide inputs for risk assessment
  • ico Identify hazards and control measures
  • ico Comply with safety and health management system
  • ico Implement a permit-to-work system
  • icoConduct safety and health inspection
  • ico Conduct incident investigation

The job role(s)/occupations that this unit would be relevant to may include:

Chargemen / Foreman / WSH Coordinator / WSH Supervisor or any person assigned to a supervisory role in the marine industry

Course Content

  • ico Explain and interpret salient WSH legislations and other requirements relevant to the marine industry
  • icoDescribe the WSH duties and responsibilities of a supervisor in marine industry
  • ico Conduct a briefing on shipyard general safety and explain the Vessel Safety Coordination Committee (VSCC) and Permit-to-Work (PTW) procedure to shipyard workers and contractors
  • ico Identify WSH hazards, evaluate and control risks in marine industry in accordance with risk management process
  • ico Carry out WSH inspections in accordance with organizational inspection procedure
  • ico Conduct incident investigation and prepare report in accordance with legal and other organizational requirements

Course Duration --
  • Training – 29 hours
  • Assessment – 3 hours

Trainer : Trainee Ratio - 1 : 25

Assessment - Written test / Written Assignment / Case Study

Certification -A Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be awarded upon completion of each unit.


Workplace literacy and numeracy Level 4 under Employability Skills System (ESS) or equivalent
